ENews: September 16-20

Thank you to all of our parents who came to our picnic on Friday! The weather was beautiful, and we enjoyed some fellowship with our new classes.  We hope you were able to meet some new families and catch up with returning ones as well. Check out the family photos from the picnic on FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM.

This week, we will have Chapel with Ms. Lara on Wednesday.

The Austin Fire Department will be here on Friday morning at 10am (barring any emergency calls). It will be a fun time for sure!

Happy birthday to Ms. Janie on Wednesday and Ms. Frances on Friday!

Reminder: We will be closed on Friday, September 27 for our Annual Conference.

Director’s Blog: FUMP Toilet Learning. Now that the children are settled in their new classes, we are looking ahead to the important milestone of toilet learning in our twos and threes classes. Learning to use the toilet is a big step in children’s development, yet it can be a challenging stage for both parents and teachers. Many parents look to teachers for help and support in teaching their children to use the toilet. It is in the child’s best interest to have parents and teachers understand and use good toilet training practices, especially with an eye for FUMP’s child-centered approach.  [Read more…]

Meet our Teachers! Each week, we would like to introduce you to one of our teaching teams. We have an amazing group of early childhood educators and I am so proud of this group of warm, caring, funny and dedicated teachers. Read on to meet our Two Year Old Team.

Ms. Janis, Threes Lead Teacher, 7 years

About Ms. Janis
I was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and grew up mostly in Texas. I moved to Austin in the 1980s to be closer to my sister, who is also the reason I entered Early Childhood Education. I started out by substituting for her when she took her summer vacations.

I am looking forward to teaching the two year old class this year. Over the years, I’ve taught most age groups except infants (and including Freshman English at Texas Woman’s University while I was pretending to go to graduate school). All in all, I’ve been working with young children since I graduated from high school and, after forays into retail and state government, returned to teaching in 2000. I previously taught at FUMP in the early ’90’s and returned in August 2013.

Ms Mari, Two year old Assistant Teacher, 5 years.
About Ms. Mari
Hi. My name is Mari. This is my fourth year at FUMP and I am thrilled and excited to be back and able to support the lead teachers to educate children. I come from a family of 5 and I am the oldest. I have been living in Austin for 34 years. I am fluent in Spanish. I have been married for 17 years and have no children, however, I haven’t lost my faith that one day we will have children. In my free time, I like to read, and listen to music. I’m looking forward to spending time with your child.
