It is parent-teacher conference week at FUMP! While at times, it may seem frivolous to hold parent conferences, because we are not reporting academic achievement. However, it is just as important to share children’s developmental progress. At FUMP, our highly trained teachers are tracking children’s progression and growth using many tools: developmental checklists, written observations, work samples, photographs and more. Also, our PreKindergarten teachers and parents are discussing issues related to the transition to elementary school. As teachers, we excited about sharing the tangible evidence of children’s progress with you!
Further, parent conference meetings give parents a chance to express any concerns they may have about their child’s behavior or development. It is the perfect time to share those thoughts, as you are in a private setting and have the teachers undivided attention.
Even more importantly, parent-teacher meetings build a stronger sense of connection to our FUMP community. Oftentimes, parents are raising their children far from their grandparents. Sometimes, our FUMP teachers are the only people who know their child so well, as we have that precious classroom time with them. We get the opportunity to see children’s new accomplishments as they unfold, retell funny things the child has said, and just be a support to one another in the care of a little one. Parent-teacher conferences give both parties the time and space to celebrate the child and the marvelous journey that the preschool years entails.
Please make sure to sign up for this important meeting with your child’s teacher. Thank you for spending time with us this week.
